Surviving the Unwanted Divorce

“At least it’s over.” Over isn’t the same as okay.

Here’s everything we work through in eleven weeks: the map, the lies we take apart, and who you get to be on the other side of it.

Who this is for

Women whose marriage has ended, or is ending, without their permission. Everyone around you seems to want this wrapped up by now. Your grief didn’t get the memo, and neither did the questions about God, your worth, and what happens next. This group gives all of it room.

What happened to you is part of your story. It doesn't get the final word.

The map

Inside each arc

The lie we take apart, the work we do, and what you walk away with

Arc 1 · Weeks 1–2 · Telling the truth

Naming the Loss

What you've been told

“At least it’s over. You should be relieved.”

What's true

You can grieve someone who’s still alive. Losing the future you planned is a real loss, and it gets real room here.

What we work through

Grief that goes beyond the marriage itself The shock of “this is really my life now” Betrayal that isn’t only infidelity What the betrayal made you believe about yourself Messages from church, family & culture Survival strategies that stopped serving you Who you were before this told you who you were

→You walk away able to separate his choices from your worth.

Arc 2 · Weeks 3–4 · Telling the truth

Untangling God from the Accusation

What you've been told

“God hates divorce.”

What's true

God grieves what destroys a marriage: betrayal, abandonment, harm. He doesn’t condemn the woman it happened to.

What we work through

Malachi 2:16, read in context Conviction vs. condemnation A difficult marriage vs. a destructive one Why emotional abuse & coercive control get minimized Rescue, not only restoration What real repentance and change require Faithfulness that isn’t “keep it intact at all costs”

→A God who sees the whole truth of your story, including the parts nobody else saw.

Arc 3 · Weeks 5–7 · Releasing

Putting Down What Was Never Yours

What you've been told

“If you had just tried harder, it would have worked.”

What's true

You can’t be the solution to someone else’s internal problem. You were never supposed to be.

What we work through

The “why” questions, and disappointment with God What responsibility is actually yours Loving someone vs. carrying them Radical acceptance (it isn’t approval) Boundaries, including with yourself Grieving the future you thought you’d have Responding with integrity, not just “being nice” When saying less is the stronger response

→Your energy back from what you can’t control, aimed at what you can build.

Arc 4 · Weeks 8–9 · Releasing

Forgiveness Without Pretending

What you've been told

“If you’d really forgiven him, it wouldn’t still hurt.”

What's true

Returning pain isn’t proof you failed. It’s something that still needs healing.

What we work through

Why forgiveness feels so unfair Forgiveness with boundaries Forgiveness, trust & access are three different things Justice vs. revenge Healing that doesn’t wait for his apology When “I thought you forgave me” is used against you Forgiving the woman who stayed

→Not “this doesn’t hurt anymore,” but “this still matters, and it no longer decides who I am.”

Arc 5 · Weeks 10–11 · Rebuilding

Building What Comes Next

What you've been told

“The best part of your life is behind you now.”

What's true

The question changes from “Why did my life turn out this way?” to “What can I build from here?”

What we work through

Who you’re becoming outside this marriage What you’re ready to release, and to begin Desires that still matter, and new ways to meet them A future that isn’t defined by your divorce

→A life you’re choosing, not just one you’re surviving.

Lauren's discussion & reflection questions

One truth to carry into your week

A taste of the conversation

The questions nobody else has asked you

Share only what you’re comfortable sharing. There are no right answers. These are a few of the questions we sit with together.

Who were you before this experience began telling you who you were? What part of you still needs permission to stop carrying blame that was never yours? What would healing look like even if he never apologizes? What is one thing you’re ready to release, and one thing you’re ready to begin?

The book we read together

One chapter a week, one honest conversation

We read Lysa TerKeurst’s Surviving an Unwanted Divorce together, a chapter before each session. Bring your own copy. The book opens the subject; the group is where you get to say what it brought up in you, with women who understand.

Still married, and unsure?

You're welcome here

Some questions are written for women still discerning. Nobody will push you toward a decision.

Separated, or in the middle of it?

You need footing now

Not when the paperwork clears. We’ll work with the season you’re actually in.

Already divorced?

Over isn't okay, yet

The grief and the who-am-I-now questions don’t end with the decree. This is where they get room.

Your future can still be yours.

Eleven weeks. Women who understand. And you, walking out knowing that what happened to you is part of your story, and that it doesn’t get the final word.
