“It is one thing to process memories of trauma, but it is an entirely different matter to confront the inner void—the holes in the soul that result from not having been wanted, not having been seen, and not having been allowed to speak the truth.” ― Bessel A. van der Kolk, The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma
The Invisibility of Trauma
If you’ve lived through abuse, you know the grief of feeling invisible, worthless, unwanted, silenced, and abandoned.
Your heart is crying out for someone or something to speak worth and value into the broken places—or else you may accept the negative narrative the pain is telling you as you possibly spiral further into depression and anxiety and unhealthy coping mechanisms.
Perhaps this has led you to make choices you regret, and the guilt and shame from those choices are worsening the original wound narrative.
Our Lord Jesus longs to sit with us in the inner voids of pain to speak His truth and love, bringing restoration to our sense of identity and belonging.
Restoration of Visbility
To know God’s heart is to experience being seen, wanted, and given a voice. He is delighted to be with you, even in messiness. You can be comforted and healed.
He has the final word and gets to define who we are because He created us.
Broken people do not get to define us or write our end story—God does!
Only He has the power to speak, heal, and fill you with His love. When He does this, He will free us from shame and create belonging.
Oh, friend, it’s such a wonderful thing to be known, and delighted in as we are.
